Adaptive Tests, or Multiple Abilities

چکیده
Dichotomous IRT models can be viewed as families of stochastically ordered distributions of responses to test items. This paper explores several properties of such distributions. More in particular, it is examined under what conditions stochastic order in families of conditional distributions is transferred to their inverse distributions, from two families of related distributions to a third family, or from multivariate conditional distributions to a marginal distribution. The main results are formulated as two theorems which immediately apply to dichotomous IRT models. One theorem holds for unidimensional models with fixed item parameters. The other theorem holds for models with multiple abilities or with random item parameters as used, for example, in adaptive testing.

Failure of Working Memory Training to Enhance Cognition or Intelligence
Fluid intelligence is important for successful functioning in the modern world, but much evidence suggests that fluid intelligence is largely immutable after childhood. Recently, however, researchers have reported gains in fluid intelligence after multiple sessions of adaptive working memory training in adults. The current study attempted to replicate and expand those results by administering a...
متن کاملAsymptotic properties of the sample mean in adaptive sequential sampling with multiple selection criteria
We extend the method of adaptive two-stage sequential sampling toinclude designs where there is more than one criteria is used indeciding on the allocation of additional sampling effort. Thesecriteria, or conditions, can be a measure of the targetpopulation, or a measure of some related population. We developMurthy estimator for the design that is unbiased estimators fort...
متن کاملA single g factor is not necessary to simulate positive correlations between cognitive tests.
In the area of abilities testing, one issue of continued dissent is whether abilities are best conceptualized as manifestations of a single underlying general factor or as reflecting the combination of multiple traits that may be dissociable. The fact that diverse cognitive tests tend to be positively correlated has been taken as evidence for a single general ability or "g" factor. In the prese...
متن کاملAdaptive Approximate Record Matching
Typographical data entry errors and incomplete documents, produce imperfect records in real world databases. These errors generate distinct records which belong to the same entity. The aim of Approximate Record Matching is to find multiple records which belong to an entity. In this paper, an algorithm for Approximate Record Matching is proposed that can be adapted automatically with input error...
